The Costa Blanca was the Spanish tourist area that contracted the most overnight stays in tourist apartments in June, 803,204. In addition, the campsites in Alicante registered the highest occupancy percentage in the country, 68.1%.

These are data collected by the National Institute of Statistics in reference to non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural houses and hostels).

The Canary Islands as a whole was the preferred destination for apartments, with more than 1.7 million overnight stays, with a slight decrease (-0.5%) compared to June 2022. Illes Balears had the highest occupancy, with 78 4% of the apartments offered. But in the classification by tourist areas, the Costa Blanca is the preferred destination, with 803,204 overnight stays.

Of course, there has been a decrease of 1.95% compared to June 2022, due to the decrease in foreign travelers. They are still the majority -513,478, compared to 289,726 Spaniards- but they were almost 20,000 less than a year ago, while overnight stays by nationals increased by nearly 3,000.

The Costa Blanca has 91,158 beds (more than double that of the Costa del Sol), distributed in 19,964 apartments. In June, 47.22% of the apartments were occupied (49.58% on the weekend) and 29.32% of the available places. In total, 3,128 people worked in apartments on the Costa Blanca.

In the whole of Spain, the Island of Lanzarote has the highest occupancy rate, with 80.8% of the apartments offered. And the tourist spots with the highest number of overnight stays in June are Arona, Tías and San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The average stay is 3.8 overnight stays per traveler.

During the first six months of 2023, overnight stays increased by 9.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. In addition, they are 7.4% higher than those of the first six months of 2019.

In June, 2.02 million domestic travelers registered in this type of establishment, spending 6.2 million nights. Internationals totaled almost 1.47 million, with 7.9 million registered overnight stays.

Apartment prices rose 9.3% in June from that month last year; campsites, 4.9%, and rural houses, 5.1%.

In the national group, accommodation in tourist apartments fell by 5.2% in June, with greater intensity in those of residents (-13.9%) than in international ones, among which they barely fell by 0.3%, to the contrary to what happened on the Costa Blanca.

The average stay decreased by 2.1%, to 4.8 overnight stays per traveller. In June, 35.1% of the places offered in tourist apartments were occupied, a rate that reached 38.6% on weekends.

67.1% of the nights spent in the apartments were made by foreigners, especially British (with more than 1.6 million overnight stays), followed by Germans, with nearly 500,000.

Campsites registered a fall of 0.4% in the number of nights, with a decrease of 4.1% in those of residents, while those of non-residents rose 6.4%. In June, 40.6% of the plots offered were occupied and on weekends the figure increased to 43.8%, 6% below a year earlier.

61.9% of the accommodations in campsites were made by non-resident travelers, with the Netherlands as the main issuing market (23.1% of the total nights spent by non-residents).

Catalonia was the preferred destination for these establishments, with more than 2.4 million overnight stays, and La Rioja reached the highest occupancy rate, with 61.5% of the plots offered.
