The General Director of the Police and the director of the El Prat airport in Barcelona have formalized the transfer of the space of more than 4,000 m2 that will house the Mossos police station. Once the transfer is signed, work will begin to adapt the space in the coming weeks, where the Regional Airport Security Area and the Operational Resources Area (ARRO) of the South Metropolitan Police Region will be located. This will imply the presence of 250 police officers in the airport area.

Since 2006, the mossos d’esquadra has carried out comprehensive police functions in this infrastructure in coordination with the State Security Forces and Bodies. The assigned space is located in the area of ??the Aeronautical Services Park (PSA), outside Terminal 2, and gives the character of a permanent presence of the Catalan police at the airport.

The agreement signed between the institutions will be for an indefinite period and free of charge. Its execution will favor the citizen security and traffic management actions that the mossos have carried out up to now in coordination with the National Police and the Civil Guard, forces that already have their own facilities inside the airport. The function of the Mossos d’Esquadra police station will only be operational and command, but not with a public eye, since it will not have a citizen service office or complaints office.
