A few days ago, the New York rapper Cardi B made headlines for her reaction to throwing a microphone in the middle of a concert at a fan who had previously thrown a drink at her and wet it. The singer went into a rage and did not think twice when throwing the microphone at the audience during her show in Las Vegas.

The video of the moment went viral in a few hours. Social networks were filled with comments, some in favor and others against. Many users sided with Cardi B; others considered her response an exaggeration. And meanwhile, the police are investigating the case since the victim of the coup has denounced the singer.

The involuntary protagonist of the story, that is to say the microphone, is being auctioned on eBay. The auction is being carried out by a man named Scott, who claims to be the owner of the company that provides audio equipment to the Drais club, the place where the Cardi B incident occurred. The description specifies that it is the microphone that “Cardi B threw a person”, followed by the charitable purpose to which the money raised will go.

Contrary to what one might think, Scott is not looking to get rich by taking advantage of the attack, but will donate the proceeds to two charities in Las Vegas. The first of these organizations is called Friendship Circle Las Vegas, which supports people with special needs. The second is the Wounded Warrior Project, which attempts to “restore independence” to seriously injured war veterans. The auction promoter confesses in an ebay statement that this organization is particularly special to him since both his father and his son-in-law served in the ranks of the United States Army.

The blunt object is a micro of the most normal. This is a Shure Axient model that retails for around $1,500 per unit and is usually sold as part of a higher-priced wireless sound system. Scott assures that despite the hard blow, the device continues to work perfectly.

The promoter of the bid decided to start the auction at $500, but in less than 24 hours, the piece had reached $90,700. The auction will still last a few days. It ends next Tuesday, August 8 at 5:00 p.m. (Spanish time), so some experts estimate that it could reach between $250,000 and $500,000.

The person acquiring this collector’s item will only be able to turn on the microphone if they have Shure’s Axient sound system, which is not included with the auction item. This is how Scott explained it through ebay. “We have been suppliers to Drais since the day it opened at the Cromwell Hotel. We provided more than one microphone for this particular show and verified with the internal team which one was specifically used by Cardi for the show. It was pretty easy to identify, as her microphone was marked ‘main’. This is the microphone that has been seen across the country flying into the audience after Cardi was splashed with some liquid. The mic still works, as I tested it when she went back to the audio store this afternoon (July 31). If you ever want to use it you would still need a receiver that is not part of the auction. I will also include a letter stating that this is the actual microphone shown in all the videos shown nationally.”
