Carlota Casiraghi turns 37 this Thursday, August 3. The Monegasque princess, who is in one of the best stages of her life, has shown that she is a worthy heir to the elegance and acclaimed style of her mother, Princess Caroline of Monaco, and her grandmother, Grace Kelly.
The life of the princess and her family changed radically when her father, Stefano Casiraghi, died in a tragic boating accident. Charlotte was only four years old and it was then that her mother decided to move to Saint-Rémy, in the heart of Provence.
A retreat that lasted until 1992, when Carlota, her mother and brothers returned to Monaco, where they once again took part in public engagements. After studying at the François-Couperin Institute in Fontainebleau, Casiraghi went to live in Paris to study Philosophy at the Sorbonne University. She did an internship at Robert Laffont’s publishing house in the French capital and later moved to London to work for The Independent newspaper.
The Monegasque princess, who speaks French, English, Italian and German, is a great fan of horses. In fact, she has won several awards and whenever she can, she participates in different competitions. Also in 2009 she launched her own free magazine Ever Manifesto, where she talks about fashion and sustainability.
Carlota is one of the most outstanding style icons of the European royal families. When she was very young, she already caused a sensation with her outfits that were a reflection of the style of her mother and grandmother. The Carlota effect arose when she appeared on the cover of Vogue Paris in 2011, an image that confirmed her success.
At that time, Casiraghi used to wear Gucci, one of her favorite brands that she wore for several years and that helped her forge her style. The Italian house trusted her to star in one of her most remembered advertising campaigns, where she appeared with a headscarf that was a nod to one of the most remembered images of her grandmother.
After this first stage, Carlota opted to include Saint Laurent pieces in her looks, a few years in which she showed her most daring side. But if there is a brand that Casiraghi feels devoted to, it is Chanel, a house that she has known well since she was little and that she has dressed her on the most important occasions.
In addition, a few years ago she became an ambassador for the house, a role she shares with Penélope Cruz. The princess does not miss any fashion show from the firm led by Virginie Viard and practically always wears tweed sets and spectacular designs that are made exclusively for her, such as the lace dress that she wore in the latest edition of the Met Gala.
As for her personal life, Carlota has had three great loves. In 2007 she began a relationship with Alex Dellal, her first serious relationship that lasted five years. Just a few months after breaking up, the princess was seen in public with actor Gad Elmaleh, with whom she had her first child, Raphaël, who was born in December 2013.
Despite rumors of engagement, the couple put an end to their relationship in June 2015, when Carlota returned to Monaco after leaving the Parisian apartment where she lived with her ex-partner.
After dating the film director Lamberto Sanfelice, Casiraghi began a relationship in early 2017 with Dimitri Rassam, son of Carole Bouquet, a close friend of his mother. In October 2018, Carlota gave birth to her second son, Balthazar, and in June 2019 the couple gave the expected “yes, I do” in a civil ceremony and, later, in a religious wedding held in Saint-Rémy.
