Barça de Montjuïc set out with a declaration of intent and a request from its top technical manager: to aim for all the titles at stake this season, sparing none, and, to do so, have the unconditional support of the blaugrana fans, that at the opening of the new house it was quite timid: less than half an entry (49,000 is the maximum capacity) during the parliaments and the presentation of the players, 40 minutes before the start of the Gamper game against Tottenham.
Xavi Hernández grabbed the microphone and was not intimidated by an Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys de Montjuïc with bare stands. He began by welcoming the three signings, Gündogan, Iñigo Martínez and Oriol Romeu, and launched a message of realism.
“We have the same enthusiasm as last season. But this season will not be easy, it will be atypical: we are changing homes”, said the Terrassa coach, who launched a petition to the Barcelona fans, aware of the change of scenery, the Camp Nou for Montjuic: “We need you more than ever, your support, your solidarity and sacrifice. It’s important that you make us feel like we’re at the Camp Nou.”
Xavi promised that “the team will give their all” on the pitch and set the bar very high, with the utmost ambition. “The objective does not change: to win all the titles this season. I’ll wait for you in Montjuïc”. And he said goodbye with the usual “Visca el Barça y visca Catalunya”.
The first captain, Sergi Roberto, who was making his debut in the position, welcomed the three additions. “This is your house”, he told them. And he expressed his wish that the players feel at Montjuïc “like at the Camp Nou, I hope you support us and help us win many titles. Last year we won two, and now we want more, we need you”, said the midfielder.
