The heat continues to tighten and specialists warn that it will not subside in the short term. In fact, they point out that the final stretch of the summer will probably be warmer than normal. And the first predictions for autumn suggest that this season would have temperatures higher than usual not only in Spain, but throughout Europe.

And although the prediction for an entire quarter in terms of rainfall must be taken with caution, it could be a rainy autumn: 40 to 50% probability of rain above normal compared to 20 to 40% of rain less than usual

The intense heat has put eight autonomous communities on notice this Saturday, including the Canary Islands, which is on red alert due to extreme risk of temperatures; In the archipelago the thermometers could reach 40-42 degrees Celsius.

Although the third heat wave that has hit the peninsula this year ended yesterday, the heat continues to be the protagonist in many places. The intense heat has now moved to the Canary Islands, after the arrival in the archipelago of the air mass of Saharan origin, very hot and dry. The intrusion of African air over the archipelago will not only lead to a heat wave from today, but also to an episode of intense haze.

In Spain as a whole, a total of 24 provinces will be at risk this Saturday due to heat, winds, coastal phenomena or haze, in a day that will continue to be marked by heat in a large part of the southeastern half of the peninsula, although to a lesser extent and intensity than the past days.

While the temperatures in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands drop slightly, they will rise in the Canary Islands, which began a heat wave this Friday that will remain in the archipelago until the beginning of next week, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Thus, the AEMET limits the extreme risk warning (red) to Gran Canaria, which will reach 40 degrees Celsius (ºC) during the day and will not drop below 30ºC at night, although the rest of the islands of the archipelago will have a significant risk (warning orange) due to daytime temperatures of up to 38ºC and risk of winds of up to 70 kilometers per hour in El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma. They will also remain at risk of coastal phenomena on all the islands except Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and the entire archipelago will be affected by haze, caused by suspended dust.

On the Peninsula, the thermometers will continue to be very high but the red color of the warnings will disappear, although the significant risk of temperatures of up to 40ºC will continue in Córdoba, Huelva, Jaén and Seville.

The yellow warning, for values ??of up to 39ºC, will affect the rest of the Andalusian provinces this Saturday except Almería, as well as all the provinces of Castilla-La Mancha, Aragón; Extremadura, Community of Madrid; Ávila, Salamanca and Soria in Castilla y León; and to Lleida.

Thus, the heat wave caused by an air mass of Saharan origin, very hot and dry, ended on the Peninsula this Friday while it has penetrated the Canary Islands, where the intrusion of African air over the archipelago will not only give rise to a heat wave from today, but also to an episode of intense haze.

The areas most affected by the high temperatures will be the high and mid-range areas and southern and western slopes of the islands with the highest relief and inland areas and southern slopes of the easternmost islands.

The AEMET expects that in the Canary Islands 37ºC will be reached in a general way this weekend and even 40ºC on the southern slopes of the eastern province and on the western slope of La Palma and it is not ruled out that in the rest of the islands it can be arrive at that value locally.

This Saturday the temperatures will be significantly high in the Canary Islands and, lower than in previous days, in areas of the northeast, center and southwest of the peninsula, with a notable drop in the Cantabrian area and Alborán.

In much of the country, little cloudy or clear skies will predominate. However, cloudy skies are expected in the Cantabrian area and upper Ebro, with light rains that will move from west to east while decreasing.

The day will have cloudy skies in Galicia and northwestern Castilla y León and will tend to be slightly cloudy or clear, and intervals of low clouds in the area of ??the Strait and Alborán.

In the eastern third of the peninsula and in the mountainous systems of the northwest and center, evolutionary cloudiness is expected, which could give some isolated showers or dry storms in mountain areas of the eastern third, especially in the eastern Pyrenees with a low probability of being locally strong . In the Canary Islands, slightly cloudy or clear with some intervals of medium and high clouds.

In general terms, the maximum temperatures will drop, notably in the Bay of Biscay and Alborán, and except in Mediterranean areas and the easternmost Canary Islands where they will rise.

Even so, 35ºC will be reached in the northeast of the peninsula, in the southern half, except in Mediterranean areas, and in the Canary Islands and will reach 40ºC in the Guadalquivir valley and the aforementioned areas of the Canary Islands. The minimums will rise except in the extreme southeast and northwest of the peninsula where they will descend. In this way, the AEMET foresees that the torrid nights will be repeated, with more than 25ºC on the coasts of the southeast of the peninsula, Guadalquivir and the Canary Islands.

Finally, it reports that the trade winds will blow in the Canary Islands, with some very strong gusts between islands; The Levant will predominate in the Strait, easing, and in the rest generally light winds, from the west rolling north in Galicia and Cantabria, from the east and southeast in the Mediterranean area and lower and middle Ebro, where they will tend to worsen, and with a predominance of the western component in the rest.
