A man was arrested this Thursday morning shortly after parachuting from the top of the Eiffel Tower, which he had slipped into at dawn hours before the monument opened to the public.
Police sources explained to Efe that the security forces were warned at 5:40 local time by the Eiffel Tower security services because they had detected the presence of a man who was climbing the east pillar.
At 6:50 a.m., the individual, who was carrying a backpack and whose age and nationality have not been revealed, jumped with a parachute and landed next to the Émile Anthoine stadium, which is located nearby, the sources added.
There he was arrested by police officers, who took him to the police station.
The Eiffel Tower Exploitation Society (SETE) has filed a complaint for trespassing and for endangering the lives of third parties.
This incident, which delayed the opening to the public somewhat, occurs after the Eiffel Tower had to be evacuated twice last weekend due to two false bomb alerts.
In addition, two American tourists with obvious signs of having consumed a lot of alcohol and who had slept there were found inside early in the morning on Monday.
