The murder of the Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta continues to cause havoc in society and occupying hours and lines in the media. The last known hour so far is the request for a death penalty from the Thai justice system for the defendant, the Spanish cook Daniel Sancho. A charge that must be decided in a trial that is scheduled to take place before the end of the year, but for which there is still a lot of fabric to cut.
Meanwhile, Arrieta’s family and legal team continue to send messages to both the Prosecutor’s Office and the acquaintances of the alleged murderer. The surgeon’s sister, Darling, asked on television for the full weight of the law to fall on Sancho after he turned himself in to the authorities. And in the midst of these messages and responses in which her loved ones have been devastated; the lawyer representing the victim in Spain has also issued a series of petitions.
He has done so through an interview on the Así es la vida program on Telecinco, presented by Sandra Barneda. The lawyer, Luis Romero, has indicated in the first place that the family wants a speedy trial to turn the page as soon as possible. In the same way, they hope that “the sentence will be harsh and condemnatory, although they will respect it whatever it is.” Some statements accompanied by two additional indications, in relation to the treatment of the victim.
The second request is to stop victimizing Arrieta, as the lawyer detailed: “He is not responsible for his own death, he cannot be victimized twice because his sexual condition or other aspects are discussed.” Finally, Romero announced “legal measures” to combat “all the insults that may be being uttered against the memory of Dr. Arrieta,” because the family wants “that his good name be respected.”
“There is much to be clarified. We want to know what was the real reason for this heinous murder and how it happened with Edwin, which still has us devastated. He did not deserve such a tragic and terrifying death,” a friend of the surgeon said in the same program. She has not been the only one who has spoken at length about the matter, and it is that Darling herself had the opportunity to respond to Rodolfo Sancho , father of the defendant.
The actor sent a message addressed to the victim’s sister, in which he asked for his most sincere apologies and tried to understand what had happened to his son. The victim gave her response in an interview with El Mundo, where she also denounced the mistreatment and criticism of Edwin: “It is a horrible nightmare that no human being deserves to live. But it must be more painful to be the father of someone who did something like that Knowing that your son is a monster.”
