Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a reality. Activision Blizzard announced yesterday the new installment of this popular action saga with a release date scheduled for November 10 on console and PC. It is a direct sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, released in October of last year, in which players will once again step into the shoes of Task Force 141 to prevent a world war.

If with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II the franchise began a new era, with this third installment it consolidates it. The new from the Sledgehammer Games studio – in collaboration with Treyarch – builds directly on what was seen in 2022 to offer more content and freedom. Next, we review some details.

The story of this new Call of Duty is a direct sequel to Modern Warfare II. Captain Price and Task Force 141 must confront the ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov, who intends to start a third world war. So far nothing new under the sun: bad Russians, good Americans and an action-packed campaign that is sure to offer several hours of shooting and entertainment.

The main novelty of the campaign mode is reflected in how the missions have been designed which, for the first time in a Call of Duty, will mix the linear and cinematographic style with small open areas. From Activision they want to give the player more freedom so that they can explore and pose the missions a bit in their own way. In principle, nobody expects an immersive simulator in the style of Dishonored, but the new proposal from Activision and Sledgehammer Games seems interesting.

Players will be able to prepare before each mission and decide what equipment they are going to use. Assaulting the enemy base stealthily is not the same as doing it with heavy submachine guns. As explained in The Washington Post, this allows for great replayability of the levels. It is also likely that, depending on each choice, many players will skip entire areas of each map, so it will be important to explore in depth. It is the sandbox or small open worlds brought to Call of Duty.

The popular Zombies mode returns in this Modern Warfare III with the largest map in the history of the franchise. In this case, the experience has been developed by Treyarch and will be an open world focused on survival and the mechanics of an extraction shooter. Players will be able to team up with other squads to face some dangerous enemies returning from previous installments.

Modern Warfare III comes just in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Call of Duty franchise, and for this reason, its multiplayer modes will be something of a celebration of its history. Sledgehammer Games has decided to recover the 16 launch maps of the original Modern Warfare 2 – the one from 2009 – adapting it to the mechanics and the new gameplay. In addition, classic game modes such as Hardpoint and Confirmed Low or Cutthroat also return.

On the other hand, for the first time in the franchise, much of the content from Modern Warfare II – that of 2022 – will carry over to this new installment (this includes weapons and operators among other things). Also, as is tradition, along with this Modern Warfare III there will also be an update for Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile.

The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will arrive on November 10 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC.
