Greek firefighters have ordered this Tuesday afternoon the evacuation of the Ano Liosia district, located in the north of Athens, threatened by one of the great fires that hit the country for the second time this summer. Tens of thousands of people are called to leave their homes in an area where various sources indicate that the flames have reached some homes.
A large column of smoke caused by the burned forests is visible from the entire city and stands out on the Acropolis hill, as reflected in numerous images broadcast on social networks.
In Greece, at least eight large forest fires are burning in different parts of the country, the most serious is the one that began on Saturday near the port city of Alexandroupolis, which has also forced the evacuation of different areas and equipment, such as its main hospital due to the proximity of the flames.
The high temperatures, the environmental dryness and the winds, that increase the risk of fires, will persist in Greece until Friday, according to the meteorological services.
