Alberto Núñez Feijóo established himself this Tuesday, after his meeting with the King, as the candidate who represents “democratic dignity”, the possibility of “a stable government not subject to any personal ambition”. In other words, “the candidate of those who want stability, moderation, agreements and the Constitution.”

The president of the PP closed, as a formation with the most seats in Congress, the round of consultations with the King, after which he appeared before the media in Congress, to make his speech more official. Although at that time, shortly after six in the evening, it was still unknown who King Felipe VI had commissioned the formation of the Government, the president of the PP spoke as if he were already a candidate, and thus explained the pillars of what would be his Government: “The defense of the Constitution, the promotion of the State of Autonomies, the preservation of the neutrality of the powers of the state, and having a scrupulous respect for judicial sentences and judicial procedures”.

In his appearance in Congress, Alberto Núñez Feijóo stressed that the alternative to his candidacy, “which is four seats away from an absolute majority” would be that of the PSOE, which is, to obtain the investiture “of an amnesty, a self-determination referendum , and make official the inequality of the Spaniards”.

Feijóo left, of course, however, what the King decided when commissioning the government, which he will abide by without any qualms, he represents “an alternative that defends the dignity of Spain and the Spanish” against those who want “undermine its unity and fragment the Spain of the autonomies”. He is the candidate who best defends those principles, which are in the Constitution, although it is clear that those who want to divide Spain “prefer a more manageable candidate”, in reference to Pedro Sánchez, whom he did not mention, and to whom with this reference he returned some of the criticisms that the socialist candidate had directed at him in the morning.

During his intervention before the media, in Congress, Alberto Núñez Feijóo winked at Vox, which this morning had conditioned its support on the fact that the PP did not participate, neither by action nor by omission, in the “sanitary cordon “which, in Abascal’s opinion, the rest of the parties are building around his party.

The president of the PP thanked the support of the Canary Islands Coalition and that of UPN, as well as his “express thanks to Vox”, with whom, he said, “we share governments in autonomous communities and town halls”, within what he considers “democratic normality” for their support without conditions and to govern alone, and in defense “of a constitutionalist government for Spain”, at the same time that he expressed the conviction that “the relationship of collaboration will be maintained”.

However, the president of the PP wanted to make it clear that his words had been written before Abascal, with whom he acknowledged that he had spoken, put that condition on Feijóo not to do less than his party. He believes that what has occurred between the two parties have been “discrepancies and misunderstandings”, which have been clarified in that conversation

Feijóo, before the media and before knowing the King’s decision, explained his desire to be a candidate, which he supported with three arguments: his party has won the elections; He has already obtained the support of three parties, which places him with the support of 172 deputies “to four of the absolute majority”, and for considering that “putting myself at the disposal of the head of state is my duty” ..

For this reason, he stressed, if he is commissioned by Felipe VI, a round of consultations with the parliamentary groups will begin next week. He will not do so until then because the president of Congress, Francina Armengol, has decided to extend the deadline for the constitution of the groups, although he is convinced that some will not respond to his call, once it has been verified that they have not even attended the round of consultations with the King, something he regretted, because this shows that “they are of little interest to Spain, and they do not respect democratic institutions”.

But the president of the PP insists that first on May 28 and then on July 23, “the Spanish turned the PP into the first party in the country, although the PSOE persists in ignoring it.”

There are 11 million Spaniards, whom he represents, who want to overcome the stage of the Sánchez governments, and who want “change, equality, dignity”. There are 11 million Spaniards “who deserve to have a voice,” said Feijóo, and for this reason, and despite “not having a guaranteed candidate or the possibility of forming a government, in the short term,” he expressed his desire to try to defend the equality of Spaniards “and their dignity”.
