The trims are one of the distinctive parts of your motorcycle and therefore deserve special attention. Chrome is a stainless metal hard enough to protect some of the most delicate elements such as the handles or the exhaust pipe and the optimum shine that gives it aesthetic functionality. In spite of everything, chrome also gets dirty and scratches easily, which is why it is necessary to carry out good maintenance on the trims to guarantee an always perfect and shiny appearance for your motorcycle.
The state of the chrome elements will depend on multiple factors, such as whether you keep the motorcycle in the garage or spend long hours outdoors. Whatever your case, introducing the frequent washing of the trims as part of the maintenance of your vehicle will help you to considerably improve its appearance with a few simple steps. For this you will only need a sponge and a microfiber cloth that you usually use to clean the motorcycle, as well as two specific products for cleaning and waxing chrome.
You should never clean the chrome after having the motorcycle started or exposed to the sun for a long time, as you will run the risk of damaging the metal or burning yourself with it. If you have a garage or private garden to do it, great, choose a shady place, if possible, and wide enough. If you have no choice but to go to a public laundry, it is preferable that you do it early or late in the day. Try to clean in a flat space and use a support to prevent the motorcycle from falling. Remember that you are going to have to rub and rub!
Pour some water into a container and, with a cloth, moisten the piece that you are going to clean. Next, apply the specific cleaning product for chrome and leave it to act for the time stipulated by the manufacturer, no more and no less, to avoid corroding the metal. Then, use a sponge to rub those more complicated stains and rinse the product well with clean water.
Finally, use a dry microfiber or cotton cloth to properly dry the chrome pieces. Make sure that not a drop of the product remains to avoid the formation of stains.
Once all the chrome parts of your motorcycle are dry, you must use a specific wax to give them a shine. Some of the products on the market contain natural waxes and are even waterproof. Apply the one you have chosen directly on the chrome and evenly and let it act for the time recommended in the product instructions.
After this period, when it is dry, use a microfiber cloth or clean chamois to polish the chrome. You must spread the product over the entire surface of the piece until you achieve a uniform shine. If needed, repeat these steps until the desired shine is achieved.
