Sumar understands that the eventual amnesty law demanded by the Catalan separatists “has a constitutional fit” and constitutes “the fastest way” to normalize the situation in Catalonia.

In an interview on RNE, collected by Europa Press, Sumar’s spokesman, Ernest Urtasun, stressed that “Sumar’s political will is clear” and that those of Yolanda Díaz believe that the amnesty “has a constitutional fit and that it can go ahead And now what you have to do is get to work.”

To do this, the party has formed a group of experts made up of 20 jurists who are working on a proposal about which they have not wanted to give more details at the moment.”

“This is not a general pardon”, Urtasun wanted to point out, but what the amnesty seeks is “to overcome the criminal effects of a political conflict to return it to politics and that it is politics that can manage it”, as has been recently occurred in countries such as Portugal and France.

In his opinion, this would be “the fastest and most complete way” to normalize the situation in Catalonia, emphasizing that not only the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and other convicted leaders would benefit from it, but also many other people who are facing legal proceedings. derived from the consequences of 1-O.

Urtasun’s position follows that shown yesterday by the leader of Mas País -formation that is included in Sumar-, Íñigo Errejón: “In our opinion it is not a legal problem but a political one, we are exploring legal ways to resolve criminal issues derived from a conflict of a political nature”, he acknowledged.

“The problems of coexistence between the peoples are fixed with dialogue and with political solutions,” he pointed out, before explaining that he only sees one possible route for the legislature to begin, the investiture of Pedro Sánchez in a government with Sumar.
