Sad day for lovers of English music from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Chris Allen, popularly known as Chris Cross, bassist of the acclaimed British group Ultravox, has died.
Allen died last Monday, March 25, but the sad news was not made public until last night. At the moment the cause of death is unknown, something that has sown social controversy, since the musician was only 71 years old and had no known serious illness.
The leader of Ultravox, Midge Ure, decided to dedicate some nice words online to his friend and partner: “We worked together, we played together, we made music and directed videos together. We were instant friends and also Ultravox comrades. Even after years apart “We managed to pick up where we left off as if the intervening years had never existed. You were the glue that held the band together.”
”You were the logic of the madness and insanity of our lives. It was great to meet you and grow with you. You are a loved and missed old friend,” wrote the singer, visibly affected by the bassist’s death.
In the group’s official account, the musicians have said goodbye in a big way and have been devastated by his death: ”Chris was a sweet, kind and fun man who continually exuded a sense of peace and calm. He would welcome you into his home with a cup of tea, a big smile and a bigger hug, and happily chat for hours about life, the universe and everything (oh and a bit of Ultravox).’
”You are never prepared for the loss of a childhood hero, and it hurts. Rest in peace, my friend. Thanks for the music. Thank you more for your friendship. My love and condolences to your friends and family,” the musical group stated.
The announcement of the artist’s death has caught his thousands of fans by surprise, who have not hesitated to fill social networks with comments of love, sadness and farewell, as well as tributes to his figure and thanks for having gifted great songs to the music industry.
”As a devoted Ultravox fan for decades, this really hurts”, ”Chris was one of my all-time favorites…”, ”He will be greatly missed” or ”Incredibly sad. Terrible news to wake up” are some of the comments that can be read on the Internet,
