Joan Soteras, president of the Catalan Football Federation (FCF), has resigned this Friday from the vice-presidency of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) hours after giving support to its president, Luis Rubiales, and declaring himself convinced by the explanations that He had given before the Extraordinary Assembly of this body about his attitude in the celebrations of the world title of the women’s team in Sydney last Sunday.
The president of the FCF will offer explanations of his decision next Tuesday, at a meeting of its executive committee, as indicated by the regional federation itself. Soteras has described Rubiales’ explanations as “credible”, although he has regretted his actions after winning the title.
These statements have led to the rejection of a large part of Catalan football and some of its main political representatives, starting with the president of the Generalitat, who has criticized the attitude of the Catalan Federation.
“We expect a much more forceful position from the representatives of Catalan football. Sporting values ??must be defended on the field, in the stands and in the federative assemblies. Not like that”, Pere Aragonés pointed out on social networks.
Soteras’ resignation is added to that of his namesake in the Valencian Community Football Federation, Salvador Gomar, who has also resigned from his position as vice president of the RFEF after attending the Extraordinary Assembly. Currently, this body had eight vice-presidents.
