Carlos Mazón has expressed this morning in Gandía his “absolute respect for the Valencian Academy of Language” of which he recognizes its “academic and scientific authority”. However, the Valencian president has asked the Academy for “sensitivity” to open a dialogue that allows “integrating a part of social and political Valencianism that has felt removed from the institution.” With this objective, he will meet on the 11th with the president of the institution, Verónica Cantó. In addition, he has affirmed that the Generalitat Valenciana will use in all its messages “the norms dictated by the AVL”.

In this way, Mazón wanted to settle the controversy generated this past regarding the legitimacy of the AVL based on a statement by the Minister of Education, José Antonio Rovira, in which he stated that the entity “does not have the absolute truth about the Valencian language” and in the that it accepted “the use of other variants of Valencian” from a message from the Ministry of Agriculture, in the hands of Vox, full of misspellings. Asked about the minister’s statements, Mazón insisted that “the entire council recognizes the authority of the AVL.”

But the president has insisted that “gestures of integration and sensitivity have been lacking” on the part of the AVL and that is why he has announced that he has requested a meeting with the president of the institution. “As president of the Generalitat, Valencian is spoken here and I cannot tolerate that from within or from outside it is said that we speak something that the statute does not say, that is its name. I will not tolerate it or allow it to be said otherwise”, has added.
