Mayor Xavier Santajuliana has been named the new head of the Mataró Local Police (Maresme) to replace the mayor, Mateo Sánchez, who has retired after 43 years of service in the force, the last 15 as the top person in charge.
Santajuliana joined the Mataró Local Police in January 2021 and, having the second highest rank within the force, assumed the functions of deputy chief. With his incorporation, the reinforcement of the command structure began at a time of transition to face the generational change.
