Carlos Alcaraz will face Dominik Koepfer in his US Open debut. The German, who occupies position 78 on the ATP, will be the first stumbling block on his way in the US Open, where he defends his title. In the second round he would face the winner of the match between the Argentine Guido Pella (210) and the South African Lloyd Harris (178).

As the first seed of the tournament, Alcaraz would only face Serbian Novak Djokovic, second favorite and who returns to the US Open after missing last year’s edition due to his refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, in a hypothetical final.

Despite the fact that the US Open has just started, everyone has their sights set on a possible final between Alcaraz and Djokovic. Both arrive at the last Grand Slam of the year with two extraordinary precedents in recent months: the Wimbledon final that Alcaraz won and the championship match that Djokovic took, last week at the Cincinnati Masters 1,000.

The Serbian made his debut this Monday at the US Open with a victory against Frenchman Alexandre Muller 6-0 6-2 6-3, which helped him to recover the number one in the world and take the first step to equalize the record of 24 Grand Slams by Margaret Court.

The match between Carlos Alcaraz and Dominik Koepfer at the US Open will be played at dawn from Tuesday 29 to Wednesday 30 August, at around 03:00. The meeting can be seen on television on Movistar and can also be followed live on the La Vanguardia website.
