Stories like Boonrad’s don’t always have a happy ending. This dog was found by a worker 217 kilometers offshore, next to one of the metal structures of a company in the Gulf of Thailand. Vitisak couldn’t believe how he could have gotten there.
Incredulous, this worker asked his colleagues for help to raise it to the surface. “He looked exhausted and very tired. In addition, there was a certain sadness in his eyes,” he says in statements collected by The Dodo.
The workers of this company do not know very well how he has managed to survive all this time alone. They believe that he could have gotten there in a fishing boat, but they also do not rule out that he swam from the shore: “We are not sure.”
The dog received all kinds of attention: water, food and an area to rest and some toys to entertain himself. “He looked good,” says this man. His stay could not be extended much longer. An animal organization picked him up and took him to a vet, who treated his wounds and checked that everything was correct.
But Vitisak was reluctant to let him go: “Ten days later, I visited him and asked for his adoption. If the owner didn’t show up, I wanted him to come home.” No one claimed it and Boonrad has gained a home.
As shown in the video, the dog is seen happy with its new owner, the same man who rescued him. He enjoys company, plays with the whole family and is now learning some basic commands like giving paw or sitting down.
