Rodolfo Sancho is already in Thailand. Accompanied by his lawyer, Marcos García Montes, the actor traveled from Madrid with the immediate purpose of meeting with the Thai legal team that defends his son, Daniel Sancho, currently detained on the island of Samui. Daniel is in provisional prison for the murder of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta, a case that occurred on August 2 and that the Thai police have closed.
According to the EFE news agency, the actor arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 8:10 a.m. local time, with a serious face and sunglasses. Despite the media expectation, he remained reserved and simply commented: “We’ll talk later.”
The first stages of Rodolfo Sancho’s trip to Thailand will focus on Bangkok, where he will hold a crucial meeting with the Thai lawyer handling his son’s case, according to sources close to the actor. Although the details of his agenda have not been made public, it is expected that this initial phase will be aimed at gathering legal and strategic information.
In this sense, one of the problems that the Sancho family faces is that the defense can only be carried out through a Thai lawyer, according to local laws. In other words, García Montes cannot represent the chef before the Thai court and only acts as an adviser, leaving effective legal representation in the hands of his Thai counterpart. Therefore, the plaintiff’s prior meetings with the Thai legal team are of paramount importance.
After a few days in the Thai capital, Sancho and his companions will travel to the island of Samui. The first meeting between father and son in Koh Samui prison is expected to take place on September 6.
Daniel Sancho, 29, has been detained since August 7, after being arrested on the neighboring island of Phanghan, the scene of the crime. The young man has already confessed his participation in the events to the police authorities and is awaiting trial.
His mother, Silvia Bronchalo, has been in Thailand since August 17, visiting the confessed killer almost daily amid a media frenzy. Once the father arrives on the island, they must organize themselves to be able to be by their son’s side in meetings through glass that last 15 minutes.
