David Nahmias, owner of what is known as the smallest hotel in the world, with three rooms and located in the El Hierro municipality of La Frontera, has announced this Monday that he will not close the facility after the numerous displays of support and encouragement he has received since it was opened in July past announced its closure in January 2024.

The Punta Grande hotel is a Property of Cultural Interest (BIC) and its owner announced that it would close the facility due to the neglect of the institutions, as well as due to the attacks received and the vandalism to which it had been subjected.

Davide Nahmias explained that it will not close “because we don’t want to, because all our love, passion, money and health are inside here. We are not just a small hotel, we are its soul.”

He has related that in April 2018 Lamberto and Britta Wagner (previous owners of the facility) gave them the key to a dream and it still is. “He is our son, a big son who had been abandoned and survived with broken shoes. Orphan of affection, attention and human warmth”.

He has stated that “when you have been fighting for that dream for a long time and it has come true, you should jump with joy, with joy, you should feel fulfilled. For us it has not been like that. And I will tell you why! Nobody is going to stay with the desire to know everything that happened in this time, time to time.”

As explained by the owner of the Punta Grande Hotel, no El Hierro institution has commented on the announced closure. “They will assess whether they are interested in fixing the Punta Grande pier, another Asset of Cultural Interest.”

On the contrary, he added, “the canaries have raised their voices, from all the islands, and many of you have come and have begged and encouraged us to keep it open. Many of you come every year and stay with us, you are family, friends”.
