Little by little, King Juan Carlos is managing to normalize his visits to Spain and that his stays, mainly in Galicia, happen more and more discreetly. Yesterday, at mid-afternoon, he left Sanxenxo, where he had arrived last Tuesday, to fly from Santiago de Compostela to Geneva, with his sights already set on his next trip in mid-June coinciding with the tenth anniversary of his abdication
The regattas that, since March, have been contested every month in Sanxenxo are the excuse that allows King Juan Carlos to plan his increasingly frequent visits to Spain. They are the excuse because neither in March nor in April did he manage to participate in the nautical test as a crew member of the Bribón. Although in recent times he has improved his physical form, the weather conditions have not advised him to get on board.
Nor has he done it this weekend, in what has been the third test of the eight regatta series of the Spanish 6M league, the category in which the Bribón competes, whose sailboat the King’s father has served as pattern in recent years. Last Friday, King Juan Carlos went out to follow the regatta on board an auxiliary boat, he stayed at home on Saturday and yesterday Sunday he returned to the sea with the infanta Elena who went to Sanxenxo to spend the weekend with his father
King Juan Carlos landed last Tuesday night at Santiago airport, changing his usual destination to Vigo, since Peinador airport is closed for construction. Before flying to Galicia, the King’s father made a stopover in Vitoria to visit his doctors and at the same Foronda airport he met the King, who landed at the same time and at the same airport to travel from there -se until Hernani, where he went to the Chillida Museum. Father and son greeted each other briefly and then each went their separate ways.
But not everything has been sea and racing in the five days that King Juan Carlos has spent in Sanxenxo. On Wednesday, with his host Pedro Campos and other friends, he traveled to O Grove to share a seafood meal at the D’Berto restaurant and, in addition, took food to enjoy at home. On Thursday, the gastronomic excursion took him to Moaña to taste the typical average of A Taberna de Lino. On Saturday, dinner was at the yacht club of Sanxenxo, with the Campos couple, the infanta Elena and their niece Victòria de Borbó-Dues Sicílies, who went there with their son, Pedro López-Quesada, who is making the first year at the Escola Naval de Marín.
The next appointment is scheduled between June 12 and 16, on the eve of the tenth anniversary of his abdication, which took effect on June 18, 2014.
