The wait is over. Starfield is now available for PC and Xbox Series in its standard edition. The ambitious space adventure developed by Bethesda Game Studios today joins the Game Pass catalog, Microsoft’s on-demand games service whose subscription costs from 9.99 euros. Likewise, it can also be purchased both in physical and digital format and its official price is 79.99 euros.
Although the official release day is today, those people who picked up the Premium edition have had early access to the game since last Friday, September 1st. This is one of the most anticipated releases in recent years and, without a doubt, the great bet of the Microsoft video game division for this 2023.
In general terms, Starfield is a role-playing game set in a future, more specifically, in which humanity has embarked on the conquest of space. Playing the role of an explorer who must recover and study a series of artifacts of unknown origin, the player has the chance to visit an infinite number of planets -more than 1,000 of them have been claimed by its creators-, participate in intense firefights, improve their spaceship or interact with hundreds of characters, among many other things.
As usual in all Bethesda productions, it is a game with a huge amount of content in the form of missions, dialogues, and settings to visit. It is not surprising coming from the studio responsible for two such emblematic franchises in role-playing games such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. In fact, Starfield is the first new universe created by the team led by designer Todd Howard in the last 25 years.
In recent days, after the game was published in early access, there have been many fans who did not want to wait until today to immerse themselves in the adventure. For example, in its first hours it reached 234,000 concurrent users on the Steam platform. Microsoft has not yet revealed sales data for the game, so beyond this data it is difficult to get an idea of the scope of the launch.
Also in recent days there has been a significant stir around the publication of the corresponding analysis of the game in the specialized media. The fact that this long-awaited blockbuster has not reached full marks in some publications, and that its maximum score on Metacritic is below the A, has generated an angry and disrespectful reaction from some fans.
