The actress, singer and dancer María Jiménez has died this morning at the age of 73. As her family has communicated through the Europa Press agency, she has died in her house in Triana (Seville) surrounded by her loved ones, without specifying for the moment the causes of her death.

“With deep sadness and pain in our hearts, we say goodbye to María Jiménez today, a woman loved and respected for her unwavering commitment to her family, friends and admirers. The mortal remains of the singer have been transferred to the SE-30 funeral home in Seville, waiting to decide whether to set up the funeral chapel in the Andalusian capital’s City Hall, according to funeral sources detailed to the EFE news agency.

Triana, the Sevillian neighborhood where the artist was born and died, will see her off with the mass scheduled for 12 noon in the church of Santa Ana.

María Jiménez was born in the Seville neighborhood of Triana on February 3, 1950. She left her job as a cleaner to start dancing in the tablaos of Seville when she was barely 15 years old, until she became one of the most complete and nationally recognized artists. .

He had almost fifty years of musical career. He published eighteen albums, in addition to acting in films and television series. Among her recognitions, she was awarded in 2022 with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, awarded by the Ministry of Culture, and also the Medal of the City of Seville, the Gold Badge of Chiclana, the Andalusia Excellence Award or the distinction at the Radiolé Awards.

In 1976 he published his first album that included rumbas, tangos, bulerías, boleros, rancheras and ballads by Silvio Rodríguez, Lolita de la Colina and Amancio Prada. It was in 1978 when Jiménez released Se acabado, whose first single became an absolute success in Spain and Mexico, with casual lyrics about a woman fed up with a situation of abuse.

During the eighties he continued recording and releasing albums. In 2001 she collaborated on the song La lista de la compra with the group La cabra mecánica that managed to reach the top of the list of Los 40 Principales.
