The Civil Guard has rescued a person in Mallorca who was drowning in an area near the tourist center of Portocristo. Several members of the Special Underwater Activities Group (GEAS) were participating at that time in the recovery of a body discovered nearby, which could belong to one of the two crew members of the sailboat that disappeared during a strong storm that swept through Mallorca and Menorca.

At the time when they were going to collect the body in front of Cala Mendia, the agents verified that a man who was swimming in the area was in serious difficulty. The agents heard screams from the bather asking for help because he was drowning. The man was very tired and he could barely hold on in the water.

One of the GEAS and a local police officer from Manacor who was also participating in the rescue efforts quickly went to rescue the man. From the ground, they were also told where the man was. They approached with an inflatable boat from the yacht club and one of the civil guards jumped into the water. Through a rescue maneuver, she placed the bather on his back and swam him to the boat.

At the time of the rescue, the swimmer was completely exhausted and about to submerge. After loading him onto the boat, they took him to the beach where the man was assisted by the medical services of an ambulance that was waiting at the yacht club.

The emergency services have rescued two bodies near Portocristo and now an autopsy will be performed on them and DNA tests will be carried out to determine if they are the crew of the missing sailboat. Investigators are almost certain that they are father and son of German nationality who left Cala Galdana (Menorca) in the direction of Cala d’Or (Mallorca) and were no longer heard from.
