Gondolas, flashes and lots of glamour. The 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival rolled out the red carpet as usual with the fear that the absence of many stars will be noticed due to the strike of writers and actors in the United States. However, it did not disappoint. Perhaps it was Georgina Rodríguez’s impressive red dress with which she reinterpreted the “Pretty Woman” style, or Milena Smit’s black design with gloves that evoked Rita Hayworth in Gilda. Without letting pass the shocking styling of Emma Corrin, with shaved hair and panties. A journey through the fashion of today – and also of yesterday – which started on Wednesday 30 August and has extended until today, Saturday 9 September.

In an initial assessment, the spotlight points to Georgina Rodríguez as the Queen of the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival. The celebrity and star of her own reality show caused quite a stir with a striking design signed by Vetements. A red draped dress with sweetheart neckline, off the shoulder with dropped straps and a very flattering mermaid cut. Rodríguez combined it with long white gloves that, as a whole, recalled the legendary dress that Julia Roberts wears in the movie Pretty Woman.

The actress and promise of Spanish cinema Milena Smit returned to Venice to remember why, when her name is called, all eyes turn to her. The actress set the bar very high with styling in the purest classic Hollywood style. She did it in a black sweetheart neckline dress with long gloves, as worn by Gilda, from Saint Laurent’s pre-fall 2023 collection. Curiously, the dress has generated one of the most curious anecdotes of the festival: three guests matched the same model – the Italian businesswoman Cristina Fogazzi, an anonymous young woman and Smit.

The model Eugenia Silva chose Giorgio Armani to get on his vaporetto, with the Spanish team, and dress in Italian fashion. In her case, a black dress with a plunging neckline and an impressive layer of pink feathers that she couldn’t stop playing with and attracting the attention of everyone there. Another Spaniard, Nieves Álvarez, stepped on the red carpet in a tight white dress, with an asymmetrical skirt and a long train in the form of a tail, signed by Pronovias.

Two of the personalities who represent the elegance and glamor of the Venice Film Festival each year are George and Amal Clooney. This time they were not seen on the red carpet, but at the many parties that are being celebrated these days in the Italian city. He, in strict black, and she, in a dress in a dusty pink, linen, with details of lace and tulle. A vintage design by John Galliano for Christian Dior.

Young actress and Miu Miu ambassador Sydney Sweeney landed in Venice to fulfill her advertising commitments. Without stepping on the red carpet, she has become one of the leading actresses of the edition. Lady-cut dresses with rhinestone details and lots of tulle by Miu Miu for the day and, when night falls, a black dress by Armani with a big red flower as a flag.

Finally, Isabelle Huppert made the big appearance at the Venice festival with a Hollywood diva styling. Balenciaga’s new muse and global ambassador, 70, went to the premiere of the film Maestro in a tight design with silver fringes, long sleeves with shoulder pads and a floor-length skirt.
