The Manager of the Spanish Football Federation agreed this Wednesday afternoon to call elections for the presidency in elections that according to the planned calendar will be held on May 6, provided that the TAD does not address the planned challenges, the first being that of Miguel Ángel Galán, president of Cenafe, a coaching school.
Pedro Rocha resigned from his position as president of the Management Commission, which is a clear sign of his intention to run for the presidency of the Federation. However, during the meeting he did not make official his intention to run for office.
The new president’s term will be until next summer’s Euro Cup in Germany. Afterwards, and with a new assembly, new elections will have to be held for the 2024-2028 mandate.
The Manager should have called elections fourteen days ago, but that day the intervention of the UCO at the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation in the Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas postponed the decision. With the resignation of Rocha, the new president of the Management Company is Rafael del Amo, who will be the one who will preside over the final of the Copa del Rey on Saturday at La Cartuja in Seville between Mallorca and Athletic Club.
The call for elections will be made official on Friday the 5th and published on Saturday the 6th. From then on there will be a period of five calendar days to present the candidacies, which must have 21 endorsements from members of the Assembly. Then, there will be two days to present appeals to the TAD, which will have one week to resolve.
To date, only two other people have announced their intention to run, both without direct links to the world of football, the journalist Carlos Herrera and the Catalan politician Eva Parera, daughter of Anton Parera, manager of FC Barcelona between 1978 and 1996. .
