Every day there is less water in the Baells reservoir, but they are also emptying it so that the river does not remain empty, as can be seen in one of the photographs that we can see in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos. .

This reservoir is at 29% of its capacity, while last year at this time it was at 35%. The average for the last five years is 78%. The total of current water resources in the swamps of the internal basins of Catalonia is only 23%.

The objective of this dam is to regulate the upper basin of the Llobregat River, supply water to the metropolitan area of ??Barcelona and also produce hydroelectric energy.

But, with the drought, the level of the reservoir is low and, instead, vegetation has grown where there was water before. In other parts of the reservoir, however, what is seen is cracked earth.

The Baells swamp is a reservoir that belongs to the Llobregat river, created by a dam located in the municipality of Cercs, which extends through the territories of Cercs, La Quar and Vilada, in the region of BerguedĂ .

Given the low level of the swamp, heritage elements are still visible, such as the ruins of old houses from one of the three towns that were submerged, in addition to the monastery of Sant Salvador de la Vedella.

Founded in the year 830 by the monks of San Saturnino de Tavèrnoles, it is the only construction left standing from the old town flooded during the construction of the reservoir.
