The hermitage of Santes Masses de Sedó has a cross, in a literal sense, but also figuratively, since, due to its isolated location, it has suffered many acts of vandalism that have forced many other interventions over time to preserve it.
This small temple is located in the lands of the municipality of Torrefeta and Florejacs, in the region of Segarra. Specifically, about a kilometer away from the core of Sedó.
It is located on a high point from which a large part of the territory can be seen, as seen in this report in Las Photos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia, where we can see the large cross dominating the view of the landscape.
The hermitage of Santes Masses de Sedó is a stone construction, completely plastered, with the exception of the corners of the building that reveal large ashlars, as can be seen in the more detailed snapshot of the temple’s facade.
The west façade has a gabled roof, in the center of which stands a belfry with a semicircular arch. An oval rose window gives light to the interior of the hermitage.
Sedó is a population entity located in the hollow formed by the Sió River, very close to the town of Riber. In this town many elements of traditional architecture are preserved, such as covered streets, porches, houses with medieval and plateresque elements. Another monument of interest is the old castle of Sedó.
The hermitage of Santes Masses is not the only religious temple, but we also find the parish church of the town, dedicated to Sant Donat and which preserves the structure and a late Gothic façade.
