WhatsApp, one of the world’s most popular instant messaging apps, has globally launched its “Channels” feature, allowing users in Spain to follow a variety of users and organizations to receive updates and exclusive content directly from their profiles.

This new feature has generated great interest, and several organizations, sports teams, musicians and even Mark Zuckerberg himself have already created their own channels to interact more directly with their followers.

The channels were announced by WhatsApp earlier this summer, and are now available to users in more than 150 countries, including Spain. This feature allows users to follow private channels of their choice, without anyone else being able to see who they follow. Additionally, these channels are displayed separately from regular conversations in the app, making them easy to identify.

This feature is especially useful for sports entities, such as Real Madrid and Fútbol Club Barcelona, ??who can use it to share news, match updates and exclusive content directly with their followers. In addition, non-profit organizations, such as UNICEF, have also taken advantage of this new function to keep their followers informed about their projects and activities.

Users who follow a channel can interact privately with posts from that channel. Additionally, WhatsApp suggests other channels that users might find interesting. Channel managers also have certain perks, such as the ability to edit a message up to 30 days after it was written.

Among the channels already available on WhatsApp are some dedicated to cybersecurity, such as that of the National Cybersecurity Institute. This channel provides users with instant and up-to-date information on topics related to cybersecurity, which can be essential in an increasingly digital and connected world.

For those users who do not yet have access to this function, WhatsApp has enabled a link to sign up for a waiting list. Once it is available for use, they will receive a notification.

It is important to note that, for the moment, the creation of channels is restricted, but WhatsApp has confirmed that in the coming months anyone will be able to create their own channel, imitating in a certain way what happens in similar messaging applications such as Telegram.

This WhatsApp initiative seeks to provide users and organizations with a new way to connect and communicate more effectively. Official channels offer a space where relevant information can be shared directly and privately, which can be beneficial for both the public and organizations that want to reach their audience in a more personalized way.
