Some of the most famous wine-growing areas in the world are washed by rivers. And the fruit produced by these vineyards gives some very unique characteristics to the wine. Here we leave you a selection of bottles from seven territories where water and vines understand each other perfectly.

San Cobate is a farm in Gumiel de Mercado where the conditions in terms of climate, soil and altitude are perfect to obtain a beautiful expression of the Tempranillo or Tinto Fino grapes. It has a very fruity nose with strawberries, cherries and black plum. The notes of fine wood give it complexity and its palate is smooth and with good acidity.

Highly awarded white wine from the Douro, a region best known for red or great sweet wines. Osvaldo Amado is the winemaker and person in charge of the Quinta. The wine has been aged in new and used barrels for about 6 months. Greenish yellow in color. The nose is complex with a dominance of white fruit such as apple and tropical fruit such as pineapple and citrus. It is also floral and offers smoky touches from the barrel. The mouthfeel is voluminous and fresh in its course.

The Loire Valley and its plurality in soils, climates and grapes offers interesting red wines and great whites. Chenin Blanc wines are as joyful as they are chameleon-like. Its color is slightly golden yellow. In aromas it is sweet and intense. White fruit predominates, stone fruit such as apricot and peach, floral touches and notes of honeycomb. In the mouth it is enveloping, fresh and fruity on the palate and on the citrus and mineral finish.

The Ebro River crosses such important wine-growing areas as La Rioja, Aragón and Navarra. The impressive Garnachas of Alto Moncayo are witness. Veratón is a wine that spends about 16 months in barrels and is made from old vines. The profile it offers is very perfumed, with very characteristic aromas of new world wines such as balsamic notes, cocoa, menthol and lots of ripe black fruit. In the mouth it is very juicy and with a finish full of nuances.

It is a producer of great dry white wines with this bewitching grape. The weather conditions, slate soil and a large slope are a paradise for the best reflection of the Riesling grape. On the nose it offers us countless nuances such as citrus, green apple, grapefruit, white flowers and even some hydrocarbons. The palate is sapid, fruity and with vibrant acidity. The wine remained in foudres for about three months and the minerality stands out at the end.

Another river that gives us great wines is the Rhône. In this case it is one of the most emblematic producers that reflects the best of the terroir in each bottle. It is a very juicy, expressive Syrah grape with a certain structure in the mouth. On the nose, aromas of olive, minerals, smoke and black fruit in a good state of ripeness reveal it.

Beautiful, subtle and delicate expression of a floral Nebbiolo, with notes of rose petals and wild strawberries, but a more tamed tannin than normal in the mouth. It is a juicy wine, overall fresh and pure in perfume. Piedmont is one of my favorite regions in Italy and is also watered by a river that marks and divides the different zones of this area in northeastern Italy. The Po River and the Apennines define its landscape.
