A 54-year-old man died this Wednesday morning when a tree fell on him while he was carrying out logging tasks to obtain firewood with a friend. As La Nueva España points out, the event occurred in the vicinity of the AS-359 highway, near the town of Ayones, in the municipality of Valdés.
From the beginning, the emergency services were pessimistic regarding the injuries suffered by the accident victim. Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Civil Guard and health services approached the scene, chartering their helicopter to quickly transport the man to the hospital in case they revived him, since it is a completely rural area.
The local police of Luarca also went to the scene of the events. The friend, who was with the deceased man, explained that they were cutting trees on a private property, when suddenly one of the trees fell on the opposite side to where it was supposed to fall, and the deceased did not have time to react. “We received the alert call at exactly 1:45 p.m., so the accident could have occurred just minutes before,” explained the Civil Guard.
Apparently, according to witnesses in the area, the helicopter arrived at the scene without landing options. The doctor had to get off the aircraft, but nothing could be done to save the life of the injured person and, finally, the health services could only certify his death.
