Neither plan A, nor plan B, nor plan C. None of this goes through the head of the acting president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez.
The socialist leader assured on Tuesday, in his second day in New York on the occasion of the UN General Assembly, that he is not working on alternative options. Right now, there is no possibility of a repeat election and all his energies are focused on working for a progressive executive, who has achieved social progress and brought harmony to Catalonia.
About the rattans on which this idea is based, especially this very linked one that is that of Junts, he stated that he will speak when the time is right and he receives the task of his investiture. Because this is Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s moment and his attempt to reach Moncloa next week, something he considers a waste of time.
The interim president made these reflections in an informal conversation with reporters covering his visit to Manhattan. This was his second day, which ended with the reception of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to the world leaders. It was a quieter day than Monday and much quieter than Wednesday. His agenda for the end of this trip includes participation in an event organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Spain and the United States and the newspaper El País and, at the UN, he takes part in the Climate Action Summit and delivers two speeches, one to the Security Council and another to the plenary of the Assembly.
Sánchez emphasized that he feels optimistic about reaching an agreement that will allow him to be invested and form a progressive government, since he thinks he has enough numbers to do so. But he insisted on the need to respect the times and now moves the leader of the ranks of the PP, which he described as lacking political autonomy and a victim of nonsense like the event on Sunday proposed by José María Aznar. It will not be until the moment when he fails that he will talk about possible negotiations and the demands of political formations. He did not advance anything, but he insisted that during the investiture process he will appear in public, leaving no room for speculation. Its objective is based on three parameters: conversation, dialogue and the framework of the Constitution.
This is the argument he repeated when he was asked if he would require the pro-independence parties to renounce the path of unilateralism in exchange for processing the amnesty. This is what vice president Yolanda Díaz declared in an interview with La Vanguardia, as the informants recalled. Sánchez said that he is determined to get the necessary support to continue to bet on coexistence and harmony in Catalonia after considering his policy endorsed by a majority of the electorate of that community.
An electorate that, according to their version, has 10% of citizens who are committed to unilateralism, so you need to speak to the remaining 90% and this is the responsibility of the political forces.
Regarding the criticisms of former socialist leaders such as Felipe González, he replied that he is convinced that they have no impact on the progressive electorate or the militancy, and he was confident that they will endorse the possible government agreements. And he reiterated his respect for González, to whom he owes the fact that he joined the Socialist Party in 1993.
