The Court of Girona has sentenced the worker of the Bisbal d’Empordà City Council (Girona) to two years in prison and four years of disqualification, who, between 2014 and 2018, pocketed 8,472.89 euros in taxes and fees.

The defendant worked as an administrative assistant in the collection service and, as he has admitted, collected cash from several taxpayers, to whom he provided proof of payment. But he kept the money and he did not record in the computer program that it had been paid.

The accused faced 5 years in prison for a continuing crime of embezzlement. By returning the money, the prosecutor, prosecution and defense have reached an agreement to apply the mitigating circumstance of reparation for the damage and avoid a trial by popular jury.
