The president of the municipal group of the PSC, Fernando Carrera, has denounced the occupation, since last summer, of the old B9 institute in the Remei district of Badalona (Barcelonès North). A building that was used by the Municipal Employment Institute (IMPO) to teach courses that cannot be carried out. The PP, for its part, has reacted by reminding the socialist leader that the first incident in the building occurred in March 2021 when the socialist Rubén Guijarro was mayor and that “he did nothing”.

Carrera has denounced that the electricity, plumbing and other welding courses cannot be held and regrets that the building, being occupied, cannot be used, with the risk that the subsidies for the courses could be lost. In addition, he has warned that the situation creates danger due to the large amount of waste that accumulates. “I don’t understand how a government that has made a point of having a council against occupation allows a municipal building to be occupied.”

The government’s response has not been long in coming and the communication department has detailed that one of their first actions since they joined the government was to prepare a technical report on the situation of the B9. They also remember that on March 22, the theft of materials and belongings began inside the building, which prevented classes from being restarted. Furthermore, on April 28 the staff leaves “because it is an unsustainable situation.” From the PP they regret the criticism of the PSC and affirm that “we are paying the consequences of the negligence of the PSC and its government partners.”

The government affirms that given the impossibility of recovering the B9 building due to the damage caused by the squatters and criminals, “we are preparing an alternative place to take the courses” and on the other hand, it has initiated the procedures to recover the environment and repair “the damage.” that the previous executive allowed.”
