The town of Gerri de la Sal is a village with a medieval feel, with narrow streets and porticoed areas to host the market, nestled in the region of Pallars Sobirà.

To cross the Noguera Pallaresa river, a bridge was built in the Middle Ages, portrayed in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia, which allows you to reach the monastery of Santa Maria, which is located in front of the town, to the left of the river.

The bridge, made up of a single large arch, sits directly on the rock. The semicircular arch stands out.

This infrastructure on the Noguera Pallaresa is strategic, because it is the only communication between the right bank where the town and the monastery are located. In addition, it allows you to take the path that leads to the small town of Enseu and others on the banks of Baén.

Field work in 2020, commissioned by the Department of Culture, confirmed that practically the entire arch and the entire upper passage area of ??the bridge was renovated with materials inappropriate for traditional Pallares architecture, such as ceramic bricks. In this way, the original bridge made of stone can be differentiated with a regular, large device.

The villa of Gerri, at an altitude of 591 meters, is located in the basin that forms the Noguera Pallaresa valley, between the narrows of Collegats and Arboló, on the rock. The monastery of Santa Maria was the origin of the population.
