The Barcelona City Council and FC Barcelona are reasonably satisfied with the operation of the mobility device at the entrances and exits of the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium on the days that Barça plays in its exile in Montjuïc. The climbing of Everest, in which the malastruks had turned the climb to the sports complex, is becoming normalized and is leaving in the background the inconveniences that come with any travel to a mass event, a problem from which the old Camp was not spared either new Nevertheless, the Barcelona City Council, in coordination with the Blaugrana association, is preparing a series of improvements that should contribute to making the visit to the Olympic mountain a little more pleasant.
The City Council’s governing commission, at Thursday’s meeting, approved the executive project of technological elements to be implemented in Montjuïc for the mobility associated with the operation of FC Barcelona during the period in which the first team will play matches at the Olympic Stadium before returning – in principle in November 2024 – to the remodeled Camp Nou.
The investments that will be carried out, and which complete those carried out before Barça debuted in their rented house in August, are budgeted at more than 1.7 million euros, and the new elements will be installed in early 2024.
Municipal sources have specified that the lot includes seven traffic control cameras, two variable lane reinforcement signals, eight variable information signals and eight light signals. But the most outstanding part of this project is the installation of four new pedestrian crossings with traffic lights and a complete intersection.
The project approved by the municipal government is currently in a period of public exhibition so that anyone who feels affected can submit allegations within 30 days.
Months before Barça started playing matches at the Olympic Stadium, an investment of 5.9 million euros was announced to develop a mobility plan for Montjuïc on match days. The City Council contributed a little more than 2.5 million euros to this special plan, which foresees that most of the actions taken will remain there definitively when Barça returns to Les Corts.
The new measures approved last week by the government chaired by Jaume Collboni are added to others that were approved before the socialist mayor was sworn in. The most outstanding, without a doubt, is the creation of a new cycle path designed precisely to give access to this area of ??Montjuïc. During October, work is scheduled to begin on the cycle path with which the Barcelona City Council wants to promote mobility by bicycle along the Olympic mountain. It is a one-way bike lane that will connect Plaça Espanya with Avenida de l’Estadi and Avenida Miramar and that, if the forecasts are met, could enter service before the end of the year. The project is budgeted at around two million euros and its implementation will mean the elimination of many parking spaces, which will make it difficult to access Montjuïc by car, not on the days when Barça plays at home, but on definitive way
The installation of an uphill bike path in Montjuïc will be complemented by an important action regarding Bicing. At the end of this year, or more likely at the beginning of 2024, the assembly of up to eight stations for the public bicycle rental service will begin.
As Betevé has advanced this week, the City Council has already published the executive projects to place eight Bicing stations in Montjuïc, which will have a total of 200 electric bicycles. Those closest to the Olympic Stadium will be located on Avinguda de l’Estadi, in front of the esplanade between the Anella Olímpica and Palau Sant Jordi, and on Passeig Olímpic, in front of the complex municipal sports center Pau Negre.
