This Monday, El Hormiguero received Maxi Iglesias on the set of Antena 3 Television, who this week presents his new series, Los Artistas. First strokes, on the Prime Video platform. During the talk with Pablo Motos, the actor explained what these last few years of work have been like, in which he has normally been typecast in the “heartthrob” role for a romantic comedy.

However, controversy arose when Iglesias acknowledged his unfortunate statements about the reason why he had not yet won a Goya award, the highest Spanish recognition in the film world. According to the actor, the fact of being handsome has closed doors and castings for him.

“They have been a few years of a lot of work, a lot of learning, I have been lucky enough to play different characters that have contributed a lot to me,” Maxi Iglesias began by saying about the characters he has had to play outside of our country. And the thing is, he is normally more pigeonholed in the role of “the heartthrob and the romantic comedy,” while outside he has been able to “play a little more.”

In addition, the actor also wanted to clarify and rectify some unfortunate statements. “I read a headline in which you said that you didn’t have a Goya because you had blue eyes,” Pablo Motos reminded him. To which Iglesias wanted to qualify his words.

“I read that headline and say you have to be stupid. How crazy and out of everything,” he admitted embarrassedly. And he continued: “It is true that I said it, but it belongs to an interview. They asked me if there have been times when my physique has limited me. I said that I was very grateful, but that on occasions I have gone to castings and they have told me no because he was too handsome or because he had blue eyes.

Of course, the interpreter also wanted to qualify his statement by admitting something important: “I don’t have any film that could have taken me to any Goya.” In this way, Iglesias settled the controversy that his words had raised.
