The family winery Oller del Mas de Manresa expects to close its 20th anniversary with a record turnover of 4.9 million euros, 13.9% more than in 2022. The figure includes the wine business and wine tourism. They debuted on the market with 9,000 bottles in 2003. They currently produce around 170,000 a year. They export 22% of production, mainly to the USA, Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada and Korea. In addition, they have announced the construction for next year, with an expected investment of five million euros, of a building dedicated to body well-being, where thanks to physiotherapists, chiropractors, nutritionists, personal trainers or meditation specialists , yoga or pilates will work on “people’s health”. It will be the cherry on top of their ambitious wine tourism offering, which has attracted 115,000 visitors a year.
After a decade of management, in 2019 they inaugurated their major wine tourism project, the expansion of the winery and the creation of a large store. It is a concept of sustainable wine tourism that has been announced as “unique in the world”. The so-called Eco Wine Resort of Oller del Mas is “among the ten global benchmarks in sustainable tourism”, the company says. It is announced as “a new slow life concept that combines wine, gastronomy, sport, nature and sustainability”. There is also a gastronomic restaurant with a terrace (Bages 964) and a wine bar, with views of Montserrat, as well as a functional fitness area, a small spa, physiotherapy, beauty and nutrition services and bicycle hire.
The third phase of the project is accommodation, with independent wooden houses integrated into the estate’s forest. They have built 22 wooden cabins of different sizes. Smoking is prohibited inside. The pitch’s sports facilities
The general manager of the winery and representative of the 36th generation of the family that owns a farm with a historic fortification from the 10th century, Frank Margenat, says that they are already a reference for wine tourism in Catalonia, “and maybe beyond”.
He wants Catalonia to work “together and with a vision of the country” to be a global wine tourism reference and longs for the wines of the DO Pla de Bages “to be recognized internationally”.
Margenat works the vineyards with ecological and sustainability criteria. They use geothermal energy, photovoltaics and aerothermal energy as their main sources of energy: the 1,500 m2 of solar panels already provide 35% of their electricity consumption. And they have a biological treatment plant.
