One of the most picturesque hotels on Madrid’s Gran Vía and without a doubt, the most traditional, will from now on have a Mallorcan heart. Grupotel Hotels
The Mayorazgo Hotel belonged to the Salazar Gordon family for 65 years. It has 200 rooms that, during the forced closure of the pandemic in 2020, were completely renovated, theming the rooms with traditional Madrid details. The purchasing company has confirmed the “continuous” character that it will apply to the management of the hotel from now on, maintaining its “identity signs”, although they now belong to a larger chain.
Grupotel, founded and chaired by Mr. Miguel Ramis Martorell, began its activities in 1968 with the Hotel Farrutx, in Can Picafort (Mallorca). With this purchase, the group brings the number of its owned establishments to a total of 46, distributed among the 36 in the Balearic Islands (25 in Mallorca, 7 in Menorca and 4 in Ibiza), 7 in the Canary Islands (5 in Gran Canaria and 2 in Lanzarote), 2 in Barcelona and this one from Madrid.
For the Salazars, this is the last hotel asset that remained in their assets, after they had to sell the other three hotels they owned to pay the fine and bail imposed by the National Court against three of the brothers, especially about Jesús Salazar, for the embezzlement carried out in Sos Cuétara, the current Deoleo, for a decade. According to the latest accounts deposited in the Commercial Registry, the hotel had a turnover of 8.7 million in 2022 and recorded a profit of 1.7 million euros.
