There is a stir in Poblenou due to the works on the building on Pujades Street, 196, where the Balius cocktail bar is located on the ground floor with a mosaic of retro tiles from the 70s and a very characteristic sign with the name of the old drugstore.
An action to guarantee the safety of some balconies would mean that the façade of the building would have to recover its original exterior appearance as it is protected, which has put those responsible for the premises on alert so that the current elements are preserved. Well-known voices, such as that of journalist Òscar Dalmau, also request that this decoration not be lost.
The matter has even jumped into the political sphere and ERC has registered a request on this issue. The Republicans demand that the Department of Architectural, Historical and Artistic Heritage of Barcelona City Council carry out the “sufficient and necessary actions” so that the heritage catalog of the city of Barcelona includes the current protection of the façade in “its entirety to maintain the aspect that, for more than 50 years, has been part of the urban landscape and the collective memory of Poblenou.”
After the controversy spread like wildfire on social networks, Betevé has reported that the City Council is reviewing the case in case the current facade could be discussed.
