The war continues in the courts between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt over the issues still to be resolved after their divorce, a process that they began in 2016 and that they did not sign by mutual agreement until 2019. Eight years after separating, the former couple continues to fight for the Miraval winery property, an extensive wine estate in the south of France that also has a large château.
Angelina Jolie alleged in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday that her ex-husband’s physical abuse of her “began long before” the much-discussed 2016 plane incident that resulted in the divorce filing.
In the court documents cited by American media, it is stated that some time later Jolie tried to sell Pitt her stake in the Miraval winery and that their negotiations finally broke down because Pitt made it a condition of the sale that his ex-wife sign a confidentiality agreement that ” “Forbade Jolie to speak [out of court] about Pitt’s abuse of Jolie and her children.”
Jolie claims that Pitt’s physical abuse would have started a long time ago but that “that flight marked the first time he also directed his physical abuse at children.” With that supposed confidentiality agreement that Pitt requested, the actor would have intended to cover up his “personal misconduct.”
“At trial, Jolie will demonstrate through testimony, emails, photographs and other evidence why Pitt was so concerned about his own misconduct that he scuttled his own deal to buy Jolie’s stake in Miraval,” the court said. Jolie’s legal team.
The interpreter never pressed charges against her ex-husband in relation to the 2016 altercation, according to the documents, because she believed that “the best path was for Pitt to accept responsibility and help the family recover from the post-traumatic stress it caused.”
Pitt was not arrested or charged in connection with the 2016 incident after the FBI completed its investigation. Also, a representative for Pitt disputed Jolie’s account of the plane incident. “Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did, but he will not take responsibility for things he did not do,” he said in a statement.
The Miraval wine estate has about 400 hectares of vineyards and a 35-room mansion where Pitt and Jolie celebrated their wedding in 2014 after ten years of relationship. The former couple are the parents of Maddox, 22 (who would have been involved in the plane incident); Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 17, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 15.
