Overtaking on conventional roads with one lane in each direction is one of the most dangerous maneuvers. The risk of an accident due to a frontal collision when its execution is not well calculated is very high. For this reason, it is important to make sure that it can be completed safely and under no circumstances should it be carried out when there is a solid line that prohibits it. An example of this comes to us from Sardinia (Italy), where a couple died in a tragic accident, which was recorded by another road user.
The events took place on the outskirts of San Giovanni Suergiu, where the route of one of the routes organized as part of the Sardinia Supercar Experience concentration of super sports cars passed. The victims, two Swiss citizens, were participating in the event with a rented convertible Ferrari.
As can be seen in the images, several supercars overtake the car that is recording the images and stay between it and the motorhome that is driving in front. Not only does a continuous line prohibit them from moving forward, but the dimensions of this house with wheels limit the vision to be able to see if a vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction.
Despite this, the driver of a blue Lamborghini tries to begin the maneuver when the Ferrari of the deceased approaches at full speed from behind, already in the adjacent lane, and cannot avoid the collision. The impact moves the Lamborghini towards the motorhome, which also ends up overturning.
As reported by the Italian news agency Ansa, the occupants of the crashed Ferrari, Swiss tourists Melissa and Markus Krautli, aged 63 and 67, died when the vehicle overturned and caught fire without anyone being able to help them in time.
On the other hand, the occupants of the Lamborghini, two tourists from Bombay (India), were unharmed and those in the caravan suffered minor injuries.
Finally, the authorities will use the video footage to reconstruct the tragedy, and the wrecked vehicles, which were visiting Italy for the Sardinia Supercar Experience, have been seized.
