Some 2,600 people have been evacuated from their homes as a result of the reactivation that occurred this Wednesday of the forest fire that began on August 15 in Tenerife.

The fire was reactivated around 3:00 p.m. in the Santa Úrsula area and has surpassed the perimeter in the upper reaches of the municipality.

The Cabildo reports that there are 2,400 people evacuated in Santa Úrsula belonging to the nuclei of La Corujera and Pino Alto, areas in which the fire is already stabilized, and 200 in La Orotava, in the nucleus of Pino Alto.

Throughout the evening, it will be evaluated whether the evicted people can return to their homes, the Cabildo has reported, which clarifies that people’s safety will always take priority.

Two helicopters from the Cabildo and two from the Government of Spain intervene in the control tasks and this afternoon the two helicopters from the Eirif of La Palma, belonging to the Government of the Canary Islands, join.

Ground personnel and material resources from the Forestry Brigades of the Cabildo (Brifor) and the Tenerife Fire Consortium have been deployed.

The Cabildo has specified that “the column of smoke is very striking, since when the brambles and heather burn it generates a lot of smoke and alarm in the population.”

The insular institution “begs” citizens not to access the mountains in these areas and to follow the instructions of the authorities.
