“A magical beauty club”. This is how Charlotte Tilbury, the famous make-up artist of Hollywood stars, defines her new make-up collection for Christmas. A club led by Elton John, the first man to become the brand’s ambassador and who has always inspired the businesswoman, both with his colorful and bright looks and with his songs and solidarity actions.
“Elton has been a great inspiration to me throughout my life. He is a musical genius, a true creative, a renaissance man and a national treasure loved by different generations. She is a fashion icon and it was clear to me that we had to do a collaboration”, says Tilbury to La Vanguardia.
This exclusive alliance comes in a very special year for both of them. The musician said goodbye to the stage in July after a 50-year career, while the make-up artist has just celebrated the tenth anniversary of her beauty brand – which belongs to the Catalan firm Puig -, one of the most acclaimed and with several best-selling products, such as the iconic Pillow Talk lipstick, a nude color that looks good on all skin tones, or the Magic Cream, the eleven-award-winning moisturizing cream that sells every two minutes around the world world
This last product is the favorite of the performer of I’m still standing, who every Christmas receives a bottle as a gift from the businesswoman. As Tilbury explains, he had long dreamed of doing a campaign with the singer and a few months ago, after attending one of his concerts, he proposed to him to be the image of his Christmas line. At the time Kate Moss was present, one of the make-up artist’s muses and also a close friend of the Briton, who played a fundamental role in this alliance. “I was with her at the concert and when we were backstage I saw it clearly. It was the opportunity to collaborate together. I knew he loved my products and uses the Magic Cream. When we were backstage and I saw all her makeup, her glamorous looks full of sparkles, I knew it was time to do this collaboration. Dreams come true”, says the businesswoman excitedly.
After getting the “yes” from Elton, Tilbury and his team began work on the collection. They were very clear that he had to follow the rocker and colorful style that has characterized the singer’s looks during his fifty years on stage. One of her most iconic styles has inspired the limited-edition Rock Star Bag, made of black velvet and studded with rhinestones, just like the jacket she wore to a concert in 1986. “I like glam rock and Fashion. It is a collection that breathes the brilliance that Elton likes so much. She is a true global icon”, says the Briton.
Also the Rock Lips lipstick has a very characteristic presentation, with the same silver stars. “Beauty looks for the holidays should be beautiful, glamorous and radiant. I wanted a collection with a lot of sparkle that reflected Elton’s style,” says Tilbury. In this campaign, the singer is accompanied by Kate Moss and the make-up artist herself, as well as other house muses, such as Jourdan Dunn, Michaela Jaé, or Charlotte’s nieces, Sofia and Bella Tilbury. It also features one of the artists supported by the singer, Rina Sawayama. In the images, the musician wears a festive blue dress, his signature glasses and double pearl necklace.
For the make-up artist, the message she conveys with Elton John as the image of her successful firm is very important. Makeup has no age and is not exclusively for women. “Our products have this incredible ability to empower everyone, to make everyone feel confident and show their most beautiful version. I really believe that makeup and skin care can transform your mood, change your energy. It can change your life”, says Tilbury, who understands make-up as a form of expression of feelings, as Elton John has done during his musical career with his styles that for many were excessive, but for others they were a cry for freedom.
The collaboration between the two celebrities also materializes in solidarity. Charlotte Tilbury has become the first beauty partner of the Rocket Fund, Elton John’s AIDS foundation. “I feel very privileged to have Elton and to be able to collaborate with his foundation. We use our global platforms to speak to those affected and be part of their mission to end AIDS forever. Together we want to highlight those who are most at risk of contracting HIV and inspire and empower everyone, around the world, to live a life full of confidence, happiness and joy”, he points out.
