Once his investiture has been left behind, failed for the purpose of being appointed president of the Spanish government but satisfactory to strengthen his leadership in the PP and as head of the opposition if Pedro Sánchez continues in Moncloa, Alberto Núñez Feijóo is preparing changes among which he does not rule out the replacement of Cuca Gamarra as spokesman in Congress.
But these “adjustments”, which was the term used by Feijóo, will in any case be introduced when it is known whether Sánchez emerges victorious from the negotiations to renew his presidency: “Imagine that Carles Puigdemont says that there are none enough and you have to vote”, said the popular leader in order not to advance events.
If the legislature ends up walking with a government pact between the PSOE and Sumar, with the acquiescence of the Catalan and Basque nationalist and independence parties, the time will come for the PP to grease the opposition machinery, and Gamarra could cede the parliamentary role to focus -se in the organic rearmament of the party as general secretary.
“We are starting a new stage and in the new stage we need to make adjustments, clearly”, confirmed the popular leader in an interview with Onda Cero, in which he also announced movements in the Senate, where the spokesman is Javier Maroto.
As for Congress, Feijóo admitted that the question about Gamarra’s role would have an “adequate answer” when he made “the final decision.” In view of the possibility of returning to the polls in January, he wanted to be cautious.
But if the changes in the Basque Country, with elections around the corner, are imminent, in Catalonia, with the regional congress postponed and still without a date, the internal crisis of the PP remains unresolved and may lead to the appointment of a manager by Génova .
It would be the response of the national executive to the challenge of the leader of the PP of Catalonia, Alejandro Fernández, without support among the leaders but confident in the support of the grassroots to maintain its pulse. Some sources point to Daniel Sirera, successfully rescued as a candidate for the Barcelona municipal elections, as the one chosen by Feijóo to pilot this compromise solution, but no one knows for sure his silent designs: “I don’t think so”, replied yesterday to the question of whether those who would assume new responsibilities know their intentions.
