This Thursday’s TVE News 1 has unleashed chaos on the networks. It all happened during sports, when Ana Ibáñez reported on how the 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

The presenter was faced with a map with a blunder: as could be seen, the map of Morocco included Western Sahara, a territory illegally occupied by Rabat and considered non-autonomous by the UN.

In this way, TVE completely screwed up by including Western Sahara within Morocco, something that the audience has quickly grasped, denouncing the events on social networks.

After the controversy, the chain has attributed the map to a “human error” that has since been corrected: “Grafismo was asked for a map; Grafismo selected a file with an incorrect map. It was, therefore, a human error in selecting an incorrect map “The management immediately spoke with graphics to discard that map,” the sources explain.

The 2030 World Cup will be held jointly by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, although there will be three opening matches that will take place in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

So far, it is unknown which Spanish cities will host the matches. As Ana Ibáñez explained, there are 13 candidate cities.
