Charging an electric car is a fundamental aspect of sustainable mobility. The speed and efficiency with which we can charge our electric cars plays a crucial role in the widespread adoption of this technology. In this sense, a Catalan startup, Floox, is at the forefront of innovation with the launch of the Lyra 60 electric car fast charger, considered the most compact in the world.
Over the last two years, a team made up of more than 15 engineers from the company located in the Free Trade Zone of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat has designed hardware and software with its own seal for the Lyra 60. It is a 60 kW charger , weighing about 80 kg and with dimensions of 1,124 x 566 mm, which will allow 80% of a battery to be charged in an estimated time of between 30 and 42 minutes, providing a range of about 250 kilometers.
The leading company in the design and manufacture of fast and ultra-fast charging points for electric cars has announced that production of the Lyra 60 will be carried out completely locally in the Barcelona area. “We are proud to be able to say that we have developed the most compact 60kW fast charger on the market and that we have also done it entirely in Barcelona,” says Jordi Gazo, CEO and founder of Floox.
The director of the Catalan company highlights that Floox’s objective is to “make life easier for the user of electric vehicles to promote sustainable mobility.” To achieve this, adds Gazo, “it is essential to have a good fast charging infrastructure. The Lyra 60 is one more step in this direction.”
Floox emphasizes that this charging station stands out for its power-lightness-compactness relationship. In this sense, the Catalan startup assures that for the Lyra 60 to boast these characteristics, the participation of Premium PSU, a leading energy conversion company with more than 40 years of experience, which has acted as an incubator for Floox, has been essential.
The interlearning process between Floox and Premium PSU was born in mid-2021 and was announced a year later, in April 2022, with the mission of promoting the use of renewable energy sources and the transition towards mobility, economy and society sustainable.
During the development process of its own charger, Floox decided to customize the solutions of a trusted partner expert in electric vehicle chargers, with whom Premium PSU has been working for more than 15 years. With him, some aspects of the standard models were redesigned and modified to differentiate themselves and provide added value to the customer.
The results of this alliance are excellent. In these first 12 months on the market, Floox by Premium PSU accredits a turnover of 1.5 million euros in the sale of fast and ultra-fast chargers, which it considers as an endorsement to launch the Lyra 60 in 2024 with guarantees of success.
