If you have missed the Draconid rain, now you can see it and relive it as many times as you want in these images in La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos captured at the peak moment from Manlleu, in the Osona region.

According to the National Astronomical Observatory, “the Draconid shower is visible in the northern hemisphere until October 10” and its moment of maximum activity was precisely last night, October 8.

The Draconids “are usually a modest meteor shower, generating about 20 meteors per hour, with a speed of 20 kilometers per second.”

But “during the years 1933 and 1946, impressive displays were visible, with a rate of thousands of meteors per hour. Also in October 2011, despite the fact that the Moon made observation difficult, more than 600 meteors per hour were recorded.”

For observers at our latitudes, 40ยบ north, the Draconid radiant is above the horizon throughout the night. This 2023 is “a good year” for its observation, since its moment of maximum activity occurs with the moon waning (the new moon will take place on October 14).
