A suspicious package has forced the Post Office offices on Ramon Folch Avenue in Girona to be evacuated. According to what the Catalan News Agency (ACN) has learned, two people entered the building, sprayed the package and then left. According to municipal sources, the package contained a powder that stung the eyes.

The Firefighters received the notice a few minutes before 6:00 p.m. and have moved six crews. Members of the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Municipal Police have also gone to the place, who are reviewing the package. The area has also been cordoned off for security and there are several ambulances.

In a message on social networks, the mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas, explained that several people have been treated “with slight respiratory problems” and that emergency personnel are working to try to clarify the causes.

In an appearance before the media, a few meters from the Post Office, Salellas explained that the warning was given in the middle of the afternoon by a citizen who was inside the building and who called the Municipal Police to explain that it was difficult for him to breathe.

When the agents moved to the building, they found that there were more people with the same symptoms, basically coughing, and they decided to evacuate the building.

The Catalan Emergency Service (SEM) reports that it has attended to eleven people in a mild condition “due to respiratory symptoms” and that at the moment they have not had to carry out any hospital transport.

The mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas, has explained that the Fire Department has analyzed the gases inside the building and found “nothing suspicious in the environment”.
